I really enjoyed Prometheus because I feel it has a lot of connections to stories that have been told before, but that are fascinating anyway. A lot of the visuals actually reminded me of 2001: A Space Odyssey, my favorite film of all time and most of the story centers around that need to find out where we came from, where we’re going, where our Creator is.

Midnight In Paris
Of all the films that were nominated for a Best Picture Oscar this year, I seriously thought that Woody Allen’s Midnight In Paris was probably the weakest of them all. Well, Woody has proven me wrong once again. It still surprises me how relevant he still is and how he seems to still be reaching his apogee during this current era. Whereas New York was once his muse, Western Europe seems to have taken over his creativity and he’s managed to make some great films recently. In Midnight In Paris he has crafted such an imaginary film, such a powerful dream, one that so many people can relate to. This film takes you away to a place you long to be, a place that maybe exists in your mind somewhere, and if not, one that will probably take shape after you see this film. I’m a huge francophile so it was a bit easy to weave myself into this story but the story does manage to take you to a special place, a place we’re sometimes afraid to reach for. From dreams come our greatest fears, our greatest desires and our greatest challenges so don’t be afraid to make a dream come true every once in a while. Conquering a fear, fulfilling a desire, overcoming a challenge is what life consists of. Midnight In Paris was a great film and I’m definitely looking forward to “To Rome With Love”.
The Cabin In The Woods
Is there anything more disappointing than when a horror film is not scary? Much like Jeepers Creepers, a film that had this extreme potential to be ground-breaking, old style horror, turned out to be a joke, The Cabin In The Woods ended up being the same. It looked like an awesome turn in horror movies, something that hadn’t been seen before but it turned out to be even worse than even the cheapest of B-horror movies. Nothing I hate more than when reality is muddled with technology or with science fiction. Keep the horror real and it’ll work.
Millennium Trilogy

There are truly only a handful of film trilogies out there that actually live up to the expectations, that are great all the way through. These trilogies tend to fall into fantasy or action realms but here’s an awesome trilogy that falls into more of a mystery/thriller category. The Millennium Trilogy consists of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest. Not only are good trilogies rare but even more rare, a foreign one. France put out the Red/White/Blue trilogy a good 20 years ago but even that hype fell way short. These films though, originally from Sweden, excel in a lot of ways. The acting and the action are superb and of course one can’t go wrong when you have Stieg Larsson’s material to draw from. Very highly recommended viewing, have already seen each a couple of times and frankly, I have zero desire to see the remake. The sensational and oddly hot Noomi Rapace will next be seen in Prometheus, continuing that Alien story. Catch them all on Netflix streaming.
Academy Awards
Academy Awards nominations finally came out and now it’s time to try and see all the Best Picture nominees before the winners are announced. Well, from the looks of things, this is going to be quite the task because for the first time in forever, I actually haven’t seen any of the nominated films yet. Something odd also stuck out, there are only 9 nominees where I believe the maximum amount of nominees can be 10. Does that mean they couldn’t find 1 more film to be nominated among the hundreds that come out every year?? How about a nomination for something like Bridesmaids or The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo or In A Better Life or even Harry Potter? Oh well, I guess they know best :-/
Here are the nominated films, my predictions will come out later:
The Artist
The Descendants
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
The Help
Hugo
Midnight In Paris
Moneyball
The Tree of Life
War Horse
